The Belmont Hill wrestling team once again rose to amazing heights, finishing the season undefeated in New England at 19-0.
The team was well prepared for the rugged pace of post-season tournaments and stood tall.
At the league championship Graves Kelsey the team won going away with 297.5 points. Champions included Freddy Pimental at 106, Alex Gavronsky (voted outstanding wrestler of the tournament) at 120, Jimmy Harrington at 126, Adam Figler at 132, Daniel Bittner at 145, and Harrison Shapiro at 182 (winning the “Most Pins/Least Time” award). The team won the championship for the 5th consecutive year, the 13th time in 16 years, and 16th time overall.
The team traveled to Connecticut the following week for the New England Championships and again came away in first place, with 194.5 points. Jimmy Harrington won the championship and was named outstanding lightweight wrestler. Harrison Shapiro also won the championship and was named outstanding heavyweight wrestler. The team recorded its third consecutive New England Championship, and 4th in the past 5 years.
Next, the team headed to the National Championship at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. Freddy Pimental placed 7th, Jimmy Harrington placed 5th, and Harrison Shapiro placed 6th earning each wrestler the most impressive All American status. Belmont Hill finished 16th overall.
All in all another remarkable season for the boys and coaches Don Bradley, Dave Leonardis, Steve Kaplan, Todd Davis, and George Sullivan.
